- Check for the open relay , it should not configured for that :)
- Restrict the application servers by IP to relay email. you can use to test (http://www.abuse.net/relay.html )
- Check for the DNS and Reverse DNS
- Use SPF
- Use AntiSpam & Antivirus tools
- Monitor incoming and outgoing tools.
- Check RBL for the mail server blacklisting
